When to Test Your Soil
Soil samples can be taken at any time of the year and our technicians will collect samples from a variety of places in your yard. They will need to collect around 3 – 5 random samples from your lawn. Fairway Green will often take separate samples from areas where plants appear to be struggling to grow. These samples will help diagnose issues with your turf or ornamental tree and shrubs vitality and quality.
Benefits of Taking Soil Samples and Tests
One of the most important tests carried out on soil samples is the pH test, which determines how acidic your soil is. pH levels in soil range from 3.5 (high in acidity) to 8.0 (which is classed as basic) or higher. Generally speaking most grasses like to grow in soils where the pH level is 5.8 to 6.5. If the soil is too acidic then adding the proper amount of lime will help raise the pH. By taking soil samples to the North Carolina Department of Agriculture for testing, our professional technicians will have a better understanding of what is going on under your plants, turf and ornamental trees and shrubs.
